Video teaser

Throbbing engines and flashing lights set the scene for the hypnotic movements of Angelin Preljocaj’s HELIKOPTER/LICHT, set to music from Karlheinz Stockhausen and Laurent Garnier. In this see-saw between the past and the future, he bids us to pass through the storm and dance with the oncoming world together. An electrifying diptych but above all, a sensory experience.

PRESS QUOTES

« (…) HELIKOPTER creates a united whole: booming music recorded in a heliport, lines and figures gliding across the floor by the magic of video, duos tripled and cut with resolute vigour. Preljocaj takes up the idea of the movement of the helicopter blades, echoed in the rotations of the dancers’ bodies, their arm movements and the intertwining of the couples(…)»
Danser, April 2001

«(…)his show HELIKOPTER, in which he confronts Karlheinz Stockhausen’s Helikopter Quartet, a score composed of the whirring roar of four helicopter engines accompanied by four strident violins. This combination is revealed to be of a most majestic beauty, demanding dance to raise its head, and raise the roof too so it will not be crushed to nothing. In a pit of light, with floor projections by the German artist Holger Förterer, which catch the dance a net of signs, and force it to fight back with biting energy.»
