Walid Aouni

Lebanese by birth, Walid Aouni studied graphic and visual arts in Brussels before being taken on by Maurice Béjart. A brilliant career as a director followed, between Europe and the Arab countries. In 1933 Aouni founded the Egyptian Modern Dance Company at Cairo Opera. A Chevalier de l’Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, he also choreographs for opera and the cinema.

In residence at the Pavillon Noir, Walid Aouni turns up with eight dancers from the Cairo Opera Ballet Company, and devotes his creation Larmes Hadid to the great architect Zaha Hadid. Premiere on 28 and 29 March 2019.
