"Parade is a ballet bearing constantly in mind the all-pervading presence of the audience. I have tried to avoid all self-censure. All was possible and especially "too much": in other words everything akin to the music hall or the 'fête à Neu-Neu' (the popular fair of fifty years ago in Paris), adorned with festive decorated lanterns. The only thing to which I cling above all else is writing ? The essential strength of construction."
