Using imagery drawn from "socialist realism", Angelin Preljocaj creates a choreographic language which expresses the different facet of the Hero. The myth of the Hero arouses sensations which are often ambiguous and contradictory, but always extreme. The Hero is both a public figure, universally recognised, and deeply isolated, alone in the face of his actions. He evokes the sublime and ridiculous, identification and rejection. He is the creator of events, acting and setting example.
"The call of the Hero is, on a spiritual level, the driving force of creative evolution. The Heroic Act stimulates emotion and creation. It is also the self-denial of the individual in the face of circumstances."
