"At the request of Suresnes cités danse, Angelin Preljocaj has created a piece for four female hip hop dancers in January 2012. Aware that they must be pretty determined people to exist in what is still a very masculine environment – something that can only please Preljocaj the artist – he has invited them to look upon their encounter as an exchange of knowledge. On the one hand, angular contemporary writing voraciously attacks the space, while hip hop energies tear along and really put the dancers’ bodies through it. This is an original combination. In Preljocaj's sights is a bespoke choreography that validates each performer and comes closest to her individual style and personality.
This original encounter between four hip hop “queens” – as he likes to call them – and a choreographer whose movements combine grace and nobility produces a kingdom inspired by everyone’s imagination and choreographic gestures, striving towards the realisation of a unit, a kingdom uniting genres and individualities, and embodying the very idea of community."
