Oona Doherty, Associate artist

After the choreographers Hervé Chaussard, Émilie Lalande and Arthur Perole, Oona Doherty becomes an associate artist at the Pavillon Noir in 2024, presenting a new creation Specky Clark and Hard to be soft – A Belfast prayer, a piece from her repertoire. She will benefit from the Theatre’s rehearsal studios and stage, as well as the expertise of the Pavillon Noir’s teams, to bring her projects to fruition.

Trained at the London School of Contemporary Dance and the Laban Centre in London, Oona Doherty has been creating, collaborating and performing internationally since 2010. In 2016, she created her internationally acclaimed solo Hope hunt and The Ascension into Lazarus. Associate artist at the Maison de la danse in Lyon in 2017-2018 and at the Briqueterie in Paris in 2017-2019, her work is physical theater with a sharp eye on society.

After Hope Hunt, The Ascension into Lazarus, Lady Magma and Navy Blue, Oona Doherty works on her new piece Specky Clark. The artist draws on her family history and Irish folklore, setting off in search of her grandfather Specky Clark. Nine performers unfold this coarsely charismatic and acutely sensitive story. Dance, theatre and a collection of images conjure up an intimate and poignant Belfast.
